Sue Stoughton-Harris
Sue Stoughton-Harris was born in Abingdon, England in 1957. She has lived and worked in Southwest England with Enno Bolhuis, her Dutch husband, since 1997. She took her A levels at Radley College and then went on to Cambridge University where she studied geography. After her graduation in 1979, she worked in France for a number of years and learned to speak the language fluently. In the early 1980s Sue went to the Netherlands where with her natural affinity with foreign languages she also became fluent in Dutch. She combined her language abilities and geographical knowledge and started translating, editing and proofreading texts, initially focusing on texts for the travel and tourist market and gradually expanding into other areas. She and her husband have pursued joint careers in translating since 1993. Having lived and worked in the Netherlands for over 16 years, she has also developed an in-depth knowledge of Dutch culture and society. Now back in England she works as a very experienced Dutch to English translator.
In her free time Sue enjoys gardening and reading. She also plays the piano.
Over the past few years Sue has also regularly collaborated on Onroerend Goed Lexicon / The Property Lexicon and Juridisch-Economisch Lexicon / The Legal and Economic Lexicon.
